Hassan Ali Highlights PSL’s Link to National Team Performance
Fast bowler and right-arm of the Karachi Kings, Hassan Ali, stated on Monday that the national cricket team’s performance significantly impacts the popularity of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He urged players to deliver strong performances and rekindle the enthusiasm of the discouraged cricket fans.
Reflecting on the team’s recent struggles, Hassan emphasized the importance of giving new players space to adjust before the first practice session for the 10th PSL edition of the Karachi Kings. He mentioned, “When the national team underperforms, it affects franchise leagues like the PSL. However, when Pakistan performs well, the appeal of the PSL grows.”
Despite Pakistan’s recent setbacks, including a subpar ICC Champions Trophy performance at home and a poor tour of New Zealand, Hassan remained optimistic about the future. He said, “The results may not be ideal right now, but we have fresh faces in both the team and management. They just need time. The players know where they need to improve and are aware of their mistakes.”
The experienced pacer also stressed that senior players carry greater responsibility during the PSL to inspire fans. “Our people love cricket; they are very emotional about it. We will do our best to honor them through our performances.”
Although this year’s PSL overlaps with the Indian Premier League (IPL), Hassan expressed confidence. “Fans will enjoy the tournament, with the best cricket and entertainment. If we perform well, they will choose the PSL over the IPL.”
He also praised the PSL as a “major platform” for emerging players to learn from top stars. Hassan emphasized that strong performances in the PSL catch the attention of selectors and management, playing a crucial role in player development.
Promising to maintain his momentum, Hassan is eager to contribute in local cricket. “I intend to keep this momentum going. I rely on this PSL for my path to national team selection. As a team, Karachi Kings will work hard to reignite the passion of Karachi’s cricket fans.”
The Karachi Kings’ opening match will take place on March 12th against Multan Sultans, following the team’s first practice session starting on the 11th.
