Punjab EPA stops new car wash centers for water protection.

Due increasing water scarcity fears, Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has immediately banned the construction of new car wash stations throughout the province.

This choice is intended to help preserve water resources, particularly as warnings of possible drought events rise.

For one wash, car wash stations usually use a lot of water as each vehicle needs roughly 40 liters.

This activity causes a lot of water waste considering the large number of cars washed daily. Worry over water availability rises and more support for the EPA’s action is given when meteorological data reveals that Punjab experienced 42% less than average rainfall between September 1, 2024, and January 15, 2025.

EPA’s Director General Dr. Emman Hamid Sheikh emphasized that the bureau ought to address environmental hazards and promote sustainable resource consumption.

He emphasized the need of the ban to keep the existing water crisis of the province from worsening. Any infringements of this order will be subject to Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code’s legal consequences.

This project shows the government’s commitment to addressing environmental problems and guaranteeing the wise use of natural resources for the benefit of both present generations and those to come.
